This proposed policy is based on the 1996 Immigration Law, reactivated by Trump in 2018 and now set to be enforced again. According to officials, the U.S. government aims to collect over $1 million in fines per day, targeting those who refuse to leave the country voluntarily.
A senior Homeland Security spokesperson, Tricia McLoughlin, said: “Undocumented immigrants must leave the U.S. on their own. Otherwise, they’ll face financial and legal consequences.”
If individuals fail to pay the fines, their assets may be seized. A new “Penalty Tab” system is also expected to launch to manage and track these fines digitally.
This revived Trump immigration policy is likely to stir political debates ahead of the upcoming elections, reflecting the administration’s strict stance on border control and undocumented residents.
